White House to host crypto and Wall Street summit on August 19

President Donald Trump and top financial regulators are scheduled to host a high-level summit at the White House on August 19 to discuss the future of cryptocurrency regulation. The meeting comes as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a major piece of industry-backed legislation, remains stalled in the U.S. Senate.

With legislative progress at an impasse, the focus is shifting toward regulatory rulemaking. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), led by Paul Atkins, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), led by Michael Selig, are expected to take a more active role in establishing frameworks for digital assets. The SEC is reportedly preparing rules that could exempt certain token offerings from existing securities requirements.

The summit is expected to include a broad range of stakeholders, including executives from major crypto firms such as Coinbase, Ripple, and Gemini, as well as prediction market operators like Polymarket and Kalshi. Traditional financial institutions, including Nasdaq, NYSE, and the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC), are also expected to participate. The discussions aim to address regulatory clarity, institutional settlement processes, and the division of oversight between the SEC and CFTC.
