US Embassy staffer extracted from UK following child abuse image allegations

An individual assigned to the US Embassy in London was reportedly extracted from the United Kingdom by US authorities following allegations of possessing indecent images of children. The operation, which took place in late August, involved a dawn raid on the individual's residence in Putney.

Reports indicate that the individual was transported to a US military airbase, including RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, before being flown to the United States. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were notified of the investigation into suspected offences on August 25, the same day as the raid, but noted that the individual had already been removed from the country.

The incident has caused diplomatic tension between the UK and the US. British officials, including Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, have reportedly held crisis meetings regarding the matter. The UK government has stated its expectation that all foreign diplomats abide by British laws. The investigation into the individual was reportedly linked to a prior investigation involving his brother in the United States.
