US officials scout locations in Poland for permanent military bases

United States officials are currently in Poland to evaluate potential locations for permanent US military bases. A delegation, including Thomas DiNanno, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Arms Control and International Security, is conducting reconnaissance to assess sites for this purpose.

According to Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of National Defense, the proposed locations are primarily concentrated in the western part of the country, with Wrocław, Poznań, and Szczecin being key areas under consideration. Bejda noted that the final decision rests with the Pentagon and that the specific number and arrangement of bases will depend on NATO's operational plans.

Poland has expressed readiness to finance the preparation of these facilities, noting that costs could reach tens of billions of PLN spread over several years. Additionally, the US Foreign Military Financing program may provide access to approximately $4 billion in preferential financing for Poland's defense needs.
