US Open 2026 Mixed Doubles Format Faces Player Boycott Threat
The US Open announced that the 2026 mixed‑doubles competition will return to the Fan Week schedule, featuring only 16 pairs. Entry and seeding will be based on the ATP and WTA singles rankings released after the Montreal Masters 1000 and the Toronto WTA 1000 events, with six teams earning direct spots through combined rankings.
Top players, including Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Ben Shelton, have demanded larger prize money and a greater share of tournament revenues. They warned they could boycott the mixed‑doubles event unless their conditions are met. The USTA said it is ready to discuss the issues with a players’ council, but no agreement has been reached yet.
