US Open expands content creator credentials to boost digital reach

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is expanding its digital and commercial strategy for the US Open by nearly doubling the number of accredited content creators. The initiative aims to increase the tournament's reach among younger and non-traditional audiences by granting credentials to approximately 100 creators across various fields, including health, fashion, and lifestyle.

This strategy follows significant growth in social media engagement. USTA officials reported that social media interactions rose from approximately 1 billion to 3.1 billion over recent years. Last year’s creator cohort generated over 5.5 million engagements, contributing to a total attendance of more than 1.14 million.

While the expansion is intended to drive commercial growth, it has faced criticism from fans. Some spectators have expressed frustration over the allocation of courtside seats and media access to influencers, particularly as ticket prices in New York have risen and resale values have exceeded $300.
