US Open Golf at Shinnecock Hills: qualifiers Mouw and Cowan battle tough conditions as Åberg endures a frustrating round

American golfer William Mouw, after earning his spot through a Canadian playoff, hit a double‑bogey on the 16th at Shinnecock Hills, dropping out of the top‑10 before finishing with two pars to end at even‑par 70. His fellow qualifier Ryder Cowan also fought fatigue after a three‑man playoff in Florida, posting a 2‑under 68 followed by a 72. Both highlighted the challenge of competing after a long qualifying day.

Swedish star Ludvig Åberg struggled on Saturday, opening with two consecutive bogeys and posting a 76, his only birdie coming on the eighth hole. The high‑difficulty set‑up left him well off the leaderboard, with the field average just under 74. Åberg will need a strong final round to climb back toward the top‑10 as conditions are expected to ease slightly for Sunday.
