US Open: Marin Cilic and Casper Ruud withdraw due to injury
The US Open men's singles draw has seen significant changes following the withdrawals of former champion Marin Cilic and 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud due to injuries.
Marin Cilic, the 2014 US Open winner, withdrew just hours before his scheduled first-round match against the 23rd seed Andrey Rublev. While the specific nature of his injury was not disclosed, Cilic has previously dealt with right knee issues. He is replaced in the main draw by lucky loser Otto Virtanen.
Casper Ruud, the 2022 runner-up, has also withdrawn from the tournament citing a persistent back injury. Ruud is replaced in the draw by Arthur Gea, who will face Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round.
These departures add to a growing list of high-profile absences from the tournament, which includes Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, Jack Draper, and João Fonseca.
