US Pentagon Blacklists Chinese Tech Firms as Beijing Condemns Move

The U.S. Department of Defense added several prominent Chinese companies—including electric‑vehicle maker BYD and tech giants Alibaba and Baidu—to a blacklist of firms it says have ties to the Chinese military. The designation bars the firms from securing U.S. defence contracts and is part of a broader U.S. effort to limit Chinese access to critical technologies.

China’s government strongly opposed the action, stating it violates the consensus reached at the recent U.S.–China summit in Beijing and undermines bilateral trade relations. Beijing expressed “strong dissatisfaction” with the Pentagon’s restrictions, accusing the United States of abusing state power and urging dialogue instead of unilateral measures. The dispute heightens ongoing U.S.–China tensions over technology, security and trade.

Analysts note that the blacklist could force Chinese firms to accelerate self‑reliance in sectors such as semiconductors and AI, while also prompting companies on both sides to reassess supply‑chain and partnership strategies.
