US Police Alert Residents to Gold Bar Investment Scam

Police departments in York, Maine and Montgomery County, Maryland have issued warnings about a fraud scheme that persuades victims to withdraw large sums of cash, purchase gold bars and hand them to a courier under the false promise of government protection. The scammers impersonate officials and claim the victims' accounts are at risk, pressuring them to act immediately.

Authorities stress that no government agency or law‑enforcement body will ever request the purchase of gold bars, the transfer of cash or valuables to a courier, or demand secrecy. They advise anyone receiving such requests to cease communication, avoid sending money or gold, and contact the police directly. The warnings especially target older adults who are more vulnerable to high‑pressure financial scams.
