The United States political system has increasingly normalized military force as a standard option for foreign policy. Despite presidential candidates such as Barack Obama and Donald Trump campaigning on promises to end military adventures, both administrations initiated new conflicts.

This trend is attributed to a systemic shift where Washington secures global interests through military means, supported by a large professional army and a global network of bases. The U.S. Congress has contributed to this by failing to formally declare war since World War II, effectively shifting the responsibility for military engagement to the White House.

Furthermore, a media culture often portrays military operations as displays of strength, while diplomatic negotiations or withdrawals are frequently characterized as signs of weakness. This creates a political environment where military action is prioritized over diplomatic alternatives.
