US poll shows 71% believe country is heading in wrong direction

A recent NBC News poll conducted between September 28 and October 12 shows that 71% of Americans believe the United States is heading in the “wrong direction.” This figure represents the highest level of dissatisfaction recorded during Donald Trump’s second presidential term, which began in January 2025.

Regarding presidential performance, 34% of respondents approve of Donald Trump’s handling of his duties, while 66% disapprove. More than half of those surveyed believe his policies are mostly harming the country. The economy remains the primary issue of concern for participants.

In terms of partisan leanings ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, 55% of respondents indicated they would vote for the Democratic Party, compared to 45% for the Republican Party. However, sentiment toward the parties remains largely negative: 57% of respondents hold negative views of the Democratic Party, while 63% hold negative views of the Republican Party.
