US Postal Worker Arrested for Stealing Florida Lottery Ticket

A United States Postal Service employee, 28‑year‑old Lakaysha Lockhart, was arrested on July 23 after investigators determined she stole a winning Florida lottery ticket worth $2,600. The ticket had been mailed by the winner to a relative in southern Florida to help cover funeral expenses and was cashed in Miami on June 19.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Florida Lottery Security Division and the USPS Office of Inspector General. Lockhart faces charges of aggravated theft, receipt of stolen property, false claim of payment, illegal use of a communications device and mail theft. Florida Lottery Secretary Reginald D. Dixon said, "Our players deserve assurance that every lottery win is protected by rigorous security measures and vigilant oversight."
