US President Donald Trump begins official visit to China, meets Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on 13 May 2026, launching his first official visit to China in more than six months. He is scheduled to hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking a direct meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.

At the same time, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that ending hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the naval blockade are prerequisites for Tehran to resume nuclear talks with the United States. Baghaei also accused the US of imposing its positions rather than negotiating on a basis of mutual concessions.

Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia may have carried out a series of covert airstrikes inside Iranian territory in retaliation for recent attacks on Saudi soil, a claim that would represent the kingdom’s first direct military action on Iranian soil if verified.
