US President Trump Defends Iran War as Necessary to Halt Nuclear Program

President Donald Trump presented the conflict with Iran as a necessary fight to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to stop a wider flare‑up in the Middle East. He framed the deaths of two American soldiers as "shameful" but argued they were justified, comparing the casualty count to the Vietnam and Afghanistan wars to downplay the human cost.

U.S. officials now estimate that the war's total expense could exceed $100 billion. The Pentagon reports the loss of at least 17 manned aircraft and 25 drones, including a high‑cost MQ‑4C Triton valued at more than $600 million each. Funding requests to cover these losses range from $80 billion to $88 billion, with the Department of Defense still assessing replacement needs for destroyed platforms.
