US presidential pardons and Colombian legislative and social updates
In the United States, an investigation by Reuters identified at least 85 public officials who received presidential clemency from Donald Trump following charges or convictions related to corruption. Of these, 75.3% were Republicans, including 36 elected officials and 19 appointed officials, or supporters of his agenda.
In Colombia, several regional and legislative developments are underway. The Bogotá Personería reported that medical appointments accounted for 38.45% of health-related complaints in the city during the first eight months of 2026, with specialized services like orthopedics and cardiology seeing the highest demand. Meanwhile, the national government and the Bogotá District are coordinating a plan to restart the construction of the Suba Multicampus University project, which has faced significant delays.
The Colombian Senate has resumed committee sessions to address public finance, social security, and emergency management. Key agenda items include political control debates regarding the Banco de la República and legislative discussions on earthquake early warning systems and cultural heritage protection.
