US Presidential Polls: JD Vance Leads Republicans as Democrats Face Contested Field

A New York Times and Siena College poll regarding the 2028 presidential election indicates that Vice President JD Vance leads the Republican field with 33% support, followed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 23%. Former President Donald Trump, who is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term, placed third with 8%. Republican supporters expressed a strong preference for continuity, with 63% desiring a successor who would uphold Trump’s policies.

In the Democratic Party, former Vice President Kamala Harris leads with 12%, but the field remains highly fragmented. Other notable figures include California Governor Gavin Newsom at 9%, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 7%, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 6%, and Senator Raphael Warnock at 4%. The poll notes that nearly half of Democratic supporters have not yet decided on a preferred candidate.

Separately, former President Barack Obama held campaign rallies in Michigan and Ohio, where he criticized the current administration. Speaking in Detroit, Obama characterized the Trump administration as defined by “chaos, ruthlessness, corruption, incompetence, folly, and absurdity,” stating that the country has reached a breaking point.
