A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,246 U.S. adults conducted July 24‑26, 2026 found that only one‑third (about 33 %) support U.S. strikes on Iran, the lowest level since the conflict began five months earlier. Support for the war has stayed below 40 % since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Feb. 28.

The poll showed that 69 % of respondents – including four‑in‑ten Republicans – say President Donald Trump has not clearly explained the goals of the military campaign. Trump's overall approval rating rose to 37 %, up three points from June. Eighteen U.S. service members have been killed in the war, and the national average price of regular gasoline climbed to about $4.10 per gallon, a rise of roughly one‑third from the pre‑war level of $2.98.

Analysts noted that the waning public support creates political risk for Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections. The survey’s margin of error was ±3 percentage points.
