Donald Trump’s approval falls to historic low amid Iran war and economic woes

A new CNN/SSRS poll shows President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating at 34%, matching the lowest level recorded at the end of his first term. A record 73% of American adults say Trump has not focused enough on the country’s most important problems, while only 27% believe his priorities are correct.

Support among Republicans has slipped to 78%, the lowest figure of his current tenure. Specific issue approvals are also at historic lows: 28% approve of his handling of the war with Iran, 25% of his management of inflation, and 21% of his response to rising gasoline prices. About one‑third of respondents back the war against Iran, and 62% say Trump is not an effective world leader.

The poll, conducted with 1,225 adults, links the decline to growing public discontent over the Iran conflict, persistent inflation, high fuel costs and a perception that the administration is out of touch with everyday concerns. The results arrive as the 2026 midterm elections approach, raising questions about the political outlook for Trump and the Republican Party.
