US redeploys aircraft carriers and missile assets amid Middle East conflict
The United States is redeploying military assets from Asia to the Middle East as the conflict involving Israel and Iran enters its sixth month. The USS George Washington is being moved from Japan to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed for nine consecutive months.
Reports regarding the USS Abraham Lincoln indicate severe logistical failures, including food shortages, inadequate nutrition, and deteriorating sanitary conditions such as broken toilets and showers. These conditions have reportedly impacted crew health and morale. While Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy officials have denied claims of critical food shortages, families of sailors and members of Congress are calling for investigations into the management of logistics budgets.
Furthermore, the redeployment highlights concerns regarding U.S. military readiness in the Indo-Pacific. The U.S. has already transferred some THAAD missile defense components from South Korea to the Middle East. Recent assessments suggest that U.S. military stockpiles are at “dangerous” levels, with reports indicating that nearly 80% of THAAD interceptors and approximately half of Patriot missile inventories have been utilized during the ongoing conflict.
