US Rep. Don Bacon demands Pentagon plan for additional troops in Poland

Republican Congressman Don Bacon called on the Pentagon to present a detailed plan for carrying out President Donald Trump's order to send about 5,000 additional U.S. soldiers to Poland. Bacon criticised the earlier withdrawal of a U.S. armored brigade from Poland, calling it "shameful" and noting that 40% of armored forces have been removed from Europe without any Russian concessions. He highlighted that 58 days have elapsed since the presidential directive and said the lack of communication with Congress and NATO partners is unacceptable.

Polish officials, including National Security Office head Bartosz Grodecki, said the rotation of the withdrawn brigade will be restored but gave no timeline or specifics on which units will be deployed. Grodecki emphasized that planning work is still ongoing. The issue of the brigade rotation is being treated separately from the broader discussion of a permanent U.S. base in Poland, for which the Pentagon has expressed openness.

Bacon posted on X, stating, "We want the plan now," and urged a two‑way cooperation with Congress on the "peace through strength" strategy.
