Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for national unity ahead of the State Duma parliamentary elections, scheduled for September 18–20. Putin framed the vote as a collective response to external efforts to weaken Russia and undermine its sovereignty. He emphasized that the elections would demonstrate the resilience of the Russian people and their support for the ongoing military operations in Ukraine.

In a separate diplomatic development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that any direct attack on Russia by European nations would result in a ‘completely different and very short war.’ Lavrov also stated that the deployment of Western military forces in Ukraine would be interpreted by Moscow as a direct war between Europe and Russia. Regarding potential peace processes, Lavrov noted that any platform for negotiations, including Serbia, could be considered if acceptable to all participants.

Additionally, Yulia Zhdanova, head of the Russian delegation, claimed that Germany is preparing its military, economy, and state apparatus for a potential large-scale conflict with Russia. She reported that NATO strategists have identified Germany as a key logistics hub for the deployment of up to 800,000 troops.
