US Requests $70 B for Missile Stockpiles as It Launches New Airstrikes on Iran

The Pentagon has asked Congress for an additional $70 billion to replenish missile defenses that were rapidly depleted during a recent U.S. operation against Iran. The request, cited by CNN, highlights shortages of THAAD, Patriot and Tomahawk systems and invokes the Defense Production Act to speed up production and licensing, including transfers to Germany and Ukraine. Congress has yet to approve the funding.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command announced a third round of strikes on Iran, targeting sites in Bushehr and Asaluyeh after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked a Cyprus‑flagged container ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Explosions were reported in southern Iran, and the newly appointed Supreme Leader pledged retaliation. Oman said it will continue technical and political talks with Iran over the strait, as the incident has sparked concerns about global oil supplies.
