US Requests $88 B Supplemental Budget for Iran Conflict
The White House asked Congress to approve an $88 billion supplemental appropriations bill, the largest portion of which – about $67 billion – would go to the Pentagon for operational costs of the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28.
Additional allocations include $11.1 billion for American farmers, $672 million for the Energy Department to fund activities aimed at ending Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons, and $300 million for the State Department to improve security and renovate diplomatic facilities in countries bordering Iran. The request was presented by the administration’s budget director, urging swift congressional action.
