U.S. Reservists Killed in Kuwait Prompt Pentagon Inquiry

On 1 March, an Iranian‑launched drone struck a U.S. military operations centre in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, killing six Army reservists from the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command and wounding dozens of others. The dead were the first American casualties in the newly declared war between the United States and Iran.

A group of Democratic members of Congress sent a letter to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth asking for detailed answers on the troops’ protection, medical care, and prior requests for additional defence and medical resources. The lawmakers submitted 23 specific questions, including why drone‑defence systems were not in place and why some injured soldiers experienced delays in evacuation and treatment. They set a response deadline of 12 August. The Pentagon declined to comment on the letter, stating it would reply directly to the authors.

The request highlights congressional concern over the conduct of U.S. forces in the conflict and could influence future policy decisions regarding force protection and medical preparedness in the region.
