Florida Mediterranean Villa Renovation Highlights Preservation Trend in Home Design

A 1,115‑square‑metre villa on a peninsula between two lakes in central Florida was renovated by the ACDO interior studio. Instead of demolishing historic elements, designers retained the stucco façade, tile roof, classic arches, columns, tower and a monumental staircase with a glass‑mosaic dome, while modernising interiors with minimalist furniture and natural materials. The project demonstrates how preserving original architectural details can give an old Mediterranean‑style home new relevance.

At the same time, interior designers are reassessing the long‑standing “American kitchen‑living‑room” open‑plan layout. The pandemic revealed practical drawbacks, prompting a shift toward “broken‑plan living,” which keeps spaces bright and open but uses subtle separations such as arches, glass partitions, floor‑to‑ceiling bookshelves or strategically placed furniture. This trend aims to accommodate work, cooking, leisure and family time within a single residence without sacrificing functional privacy.
