US responds to Iran's seven-day trust-building proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been informed of the United States' response to Tehran's seven-day trust-building proposal. The response was delivered via Qatari mediators during a meeting in Doha.

The seven-day plan was intended to build confidence between Washington and Tehran, potentially leading to an enhanced version of a memorandum of understanding reached in June, which includes steps regarding Iran's nuclear program. Under the proposal, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened and maritime navigation restored if specific conditions are met.

According to officials, the primary point of disagreement between the two nations is the sequence of actions rather than the specific elements of the plan itself. While mediators from Qatar are working to find common ground to avoid further conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump has previously rejected the proposal, maintaining that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons.
