U.S. robocalls hit one-year high with 4.4 billion calls in July

Robocall activity in the United States reached a one-year high in July, with an estimated 4.3 to 4.4 billion spam calls recorded. Data from the call-blocking service YouMail indicates that these automated calls have steadily increased in recent months.

Telemarketing pitches and scam calls comprised the largest portion of the unwanted volume. A prevalent campaign involved fraudulent offers for pre-approved personal loans. While some automated calls are legitimate service reminders, the surge has made it difficult for consumers to distinguish between valid communications and scams.

Significant increases in spam calls were noted in several regions, particularly in Texas, Georgia, and Indiana. Specific area codes experiencing high growth included Houston (346), Atlanta (470), and Indianapolis (765 and 317).
