U.S. school districts launch back‑to‑school outreach programs

In LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, school officials completed a series of preparatory meetings and community supply drives ahead of the 2026‑2027 school year. Superintendent Jon Garrett met with parish principals and staff at the LaSalle Parish Library, while the WoodmenLife Field Representative distributed 300 supply bags to students during a drive‑through event. Schools in the parish began classes between August 4 and August 11.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Unified School District began its own back‑to‑school effort focused on chronic absenteeism. Superintendent Andres Chait and district staff rode a school bus to visit families in neighborhoods such as Pacoima, meeting students and providing supplies. The outreach aims to encourage regular attendance before classes resume on August 12 and addresses challenges faced by communities affected by recent immigration‑enforcement actions.
