US Secretary of State Marco Rubio calls for Cuban collaboration with CIA

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has publicly called on Cuban citizens seeking political change to establish a “discreet partnership with the CIA.” In a social media post, Rubio cited corruption and the privileged lifestyles of a small elite as reasons for citizens to seek positive transformation through the intelligence agency.

Following Rubio’s statement, the CIA released a video in Spanish providing instructions for individuals interested in sharing information. The agency recommended contacting official US installations if safe, or using secure digital methods such as VPNs, private browsers, and temporary email accounts to communicate via their website.

General Francis L. Donovan of the US Southern Command echoed these sentiments, stating that Cuba’s future belongs to those who act. Meanwhile, Cuban Vice Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío criticized the move on social media, characterizing it as an overt recruitment attempt by the United States.

These developments follow recent indications from the Trump administration regarding increased economic, political, and legal pressure on Cuba, including previous mentions of potential military intervention.
