US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington open to diplomatic solution with Iran

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the death of an American soldier in Iraq was an "accidental incident" that occurred while handling an Iranian drone. He said the United States is ready to pursue a genuine diplomatic settlement with Tehran, noting that Iran has shown signals of willingness to negotiate. Rubio also highlighted that an Iranian missile succeeded in breaching Jordan’s air defenses on Friday, while most other missiles were intercepted. He warned that continued failures in diplomatic efforts would not benefit Tehran and emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international navigation. The remarks came amid ongoing U.S. strikes on Iranian‑linked targets in the region and heightened tensions involving Iraqi and Jordanian airspace.
