Marco Rubio visits Athens for 6th Greece-US Strategic Dialogue

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is conducting a European tour, visiting Iceland, Greece, and Portugal to strengthen defense, energy, and economic cooperation with NATO allies. In Iceland, discussions focused on Arctic security and economic ties.

In Athens, Rubio is participating in the 6th Greece-US Strategic Dialogue. The agenda covers defense, regional security, high technology, and energy, with a specific focus on the Vertical Corridor to facilitate American LNG transport to Europe. Key agreements being signed include the renewal of a memorandum on protecting archaeological materials, a cooperation letter between the Greek Armed Forces and the Florida National Guard, and a memorandum for the mutual recognition of seafarers' certificates.

Amidst the visit, the Greek Ministry of National Defence reported that seven Turkish aircraft conducted 15 violations of Greek airspace and ten violations of air traffic rules in the Athens FIR. Additionally, heavy security measures and traffic restrictions are in place in central Athens to manage the high-profile visit.
