US seeks to revoke citizenship of Kansas man over alleged identity fraud

The U.S. government has filed a civil lawsuit to revoke the citizenship of Harinder Singh, an Indian-origin man residing in Olathe, Kansas, alleging he obtained naturalization through identity fraud.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas, Singh allegedly used multiple identities, including Harinder Singh Sanghera and Rushpal Singh, to conceal his immigration history. Authorities state that Singh was first encountered at JFK International Airport in 1991 under the name Rushpal Singh. Although an immigration judge ordered his deportation in 1995, the government claims there is no record of him ever leaving the country.

Prosecutors allege that in 1996, Singh submitted a new immigration application using the name Harinder Singh, providing different biographical details such as his date of birth and entry circumstances. This application was approved, leading to his lawful permanent resident status in 2000 and his eventual naturalization as a U.S. citizen in 2008. The government is now seeking to invalidate his naturalization certificate.
