US Senate adopts resolution urging President Trump to end military involvement in Iran

On Tuesday, the US Senate, with a narrow 50‑48 vote, passed a non‑binding resolution calling on President Donald Trump to withdraw American forces from the ongoing conflict with Iran. The measure followed a similar vote in the House of Representatives that passed 215‑208 earlier in June. The resolution, advocated by Democrats and a handful of Republicans, would invoke the War Powers Act of 1973 but the White House has said such congressional actions are unconstitutional and expects to ignore it.

The vote came amid heightened tension between Trump and members of his own party. At a Capitol lunch, the president reportedly argued with Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, who had voted for the resolution, accusing him and other GOP senators of “mistakes” over the Iran war. Trump told reporters the Republican Party remains “very united” despite personal dislikes. The episode reflects growing intra‑party conflict over foreign‑policy decisions and related legislation such as the SAVE America Act.
