US Senate Advances CLARITY Act 2025 Targeting Crypto Regulation and XRP
The US Senate is moving toward a full vote on the CLARITY Act 2025, a proposed federal framework that would clarify the regulatory split between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for digital assets. The bill aims to provide a stable legal classification for assets such as XRP, treating them more like commodities and reducing uncertainty for exchanges, payment providers and liquidity partners.
More than 200 crypto firms, including Coinbase, Ripple, Kraken, Circle, Andreessen Horowitz and Binance US, have signed a letter urging Senate leaders to bring the legislation to a plenary vote. The initiative was coordinated by industry groups Stand With Crypto, the Blockchain Association and others. In parallel, a separate letter from 160 former law‑enforcement officials and public support from Treasury Secretary Scott Besen has bolstered the push. Political hurdles remain, with ongoing debates about alleged ties between the Trump family and the crypto industry that could affect the bill’s progress.
