U.S. Senate and UN Ambassador weigh Saudi nuclear deal amid Iran conflict

Senator John Kennedy told Face the Nation that he opposes a Saudi civil nuclear agreement, arguing the timing is poor as the United States continues military actions aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. He warned that the deal could encourage other nations such as Japan, South Korea or Brazil to pursue their own nuclear programs.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz also appeared on the program, saying the administration is focused on ending the Iran‑related conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He cited recent polling showing strong public support for these goals and noted a temporary pause in bombing to give diplomacy space.

Both officials emphasized the need for congressional oversight and diplomatic effort to address nuclear proliferation and regional security.
