US Senate approves $70 billion immigration enforcement funding bill
The U.S. Senate passed a roughly $70 billion reconciliation bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration enforcement agencies through 2028. The legislation, approved along party lines, follows a marathon series of votes and a recent shutdown of DHS that ended in April after President Trump signed appropriations for fiscal year 2026.
The measure returns to the House of Representatives for further consideration. A disputed amendment aimed at blocking an anti‑weaponization fund was dropped after the Justice Department, citing a federal judge’s ruling, announced it would not pursue the fund.
