U.S. Senate bill to keep Daughters of the American Revolution membership women‑only advances
U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt of Alabama, joined by Senators Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee and Kevin Cramer, have introduced legislation to amend the Daughters of the American Revolution’s federal charter. The bill would restrict DAR membership to biological women, defining eligibility by the presence of a reproductive system that produces ova.
The measure is a response to the DAR’s recent decision to open its doors to members who are biologically male, which the sponsors say undermines the organization’s historical purpose. Tuberville called the change “woke nonsense,” noting that Alabama alone has over 4,000 DAR members who should not face this shift.
