US Senate blocks CLARITY Act, stalling crypto regulation
The United States Senate has halted the progress of the CLARITY Act, a legislative initiative intended to establish federal rules for digital assets. On September 15, the proposal failed to reach the 60 votes required to proceed, receiving 49 votes in favor and 50 against.
The failure to advance the bill has reintroduced regulatory uncertainty within the cryptocurrency sector. The act was viewed by industry participants as a significant opportunity to create a clear federal framework and define the respective responsibilities of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Following the vote, the cryptocurrency market experienced a price correction. Analysts noted that while the market reacted with disappointment, the movement appeared to be a logical adjustment rather than a full-scale crisis of confidence. The lack of legislative progress leaves the industry reliant on evolving rule-making from existing regulatory bodies while awaiting further congressional action.
