US Senate Confirms Ronald Johnson Qualified as Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador
The United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee issued a report confirming that retired Brigadier General Ronald Johnson meets all qualifications to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The committee highlighted his more than four decades of experience in international security, including service in the Marine Corps from 1975 to 2010, participation in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, and leadership of the evacuation of U.S. citizens from Beirut.
Johnson’s career also includes roles as a United Nations military observer in Lebanon and the Sinai, advisory work with a Central Asian peace battalion, command of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and senior positions at Marine Corps headquarters and U.S. Atlantic Command. He received the Legion of Merit with two gold stars and the Bronze Star with a "V" device. After retiring, he founded Mares Associates LLC, a consultancy focused on international security cooperation, defence modernisation and strategic advice. The committee concluded that his extensive leadership, diplomatic skills and security expertise make him highly qualified for the ambassadorship.
