Senator Warren Demands Trump Crypto Disclosure Ahead of CLARITY Act Vote

Senator Elizabeth Warren, ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, sent a letter to President Donald Trump on July 16 demanding an updated disclosure of his cryptocurrency earnings and holdings for the first half of 2026, with a deadline of July 23. Federal filings show Trump earned about $1.4 billion from crypto‑related ventures in 2025, including the TRUMP meme coin and the family firm World Liberty Financial, a sum that would rise if the pending Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act were enacted.

Warren argues that lawmakers need the information to assess possible conflicts of interest as the Senate prepares to debate the CLARITY Act, which would create a federal framework for digital‑asset markets and assign oversight between the SEC and CFTC. Several Democratic senators have raised ethics objections, fearing the bill could benefit Trump and other officials who hold crypto assets. The legislation is stalled in the Senate, with Democrats demanding stricter anti‑money‑laundering and conflict‑of‑interest provisions. Senator Cynthia Lummis warned that missing the current vote could push comprehensive crypto regulation out to 2030.

Meanwhile, Ripple has relaunched a public‑outreach campaign for the CLARITY Act, deploying a branded truck in Washington, D.C., and citing support from over 200 organizations. The bill passed the Senate Banking Committee but still needs a 60‑vote supermajority to overcome a filibuster.

The outcome of the debate will shape U.S. crypto regulation, affect market participants such as XRP, Bitcoin and other digital assets, and determine whether ethics concerns will alter the bill’s language.
