US Senate Republicans Resist DOJ Over Acting Attorney General and Brennan Records

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will keep Todd Blanche as acting attorney general and push the anti‑weaponization bill after Senators John Cornyn (R‑TX) and Thom Tillis (R‑NC) blocked the confirmation of Blanche. Trump warned that if the senators do not support the nomination, he will withdraw it after they leave office.

At the same time, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R‑SD) and Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton (R‑AR) have stalled the Justice Department’s request for Senate transcripts, depositions and other records related to former CIA Director John Brennan and the Russia‑collusion investigation. The DOJ set a Feb. 23 deadline, but the Senate has not complied, hindering a grand‑jury probe into alleged misuse of law‑enforcement tools against President Trump and his supporters.
