Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced the delay, confirming that the bill will be taken up when senators return. The legislation is intended to clarify the regulatory split between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for digital assets.

The postponement leaves the crypto industry in regulatory limbo. XRP fell about 1.45% after the news, and prediction‑market odds on Polymarket estimate a 14‑17% chance the bill becomes law in 2026. The bill currently has 51 confirmed Senate supporters and needs 7‑10 Democratic votes to reach the 60‑vote threshold required for cloture. Democrats oppose the bill’s ethics provisions, while Republicans are seeking a cloture motion to force a vote after the recess.
