Senators criticize taxpayer-funded ads featuring Donald Trump
Republican Senator John Kennedy and other officials have raised concerns regarding taxpayer-funded advertisements featuring President Donald Trump. The commercials, which aired on major and cable networks, include praise for the President and state that they are ‘paid for by the U.S. government.’
The White House has defended the ads, characterizing them as ‘educational and unapologetically patriotic’ public service announcements that are ‘clearly not political’ because the President is not currently on the ballot. However, the use of public funds has drawn criticism from within the Republican party. Senator Kennedy stated that no public official should use taxpayer money to promote themselves, noting that he has previously criticized former Secretary Kristi Noem for similar spending.
Additionally, the singer JMSN, whose music was featured in the advertisements, stated that he never authorized his work to be used for any political agenda or campaign.
