U.S. Senators demand briefing on West Bank violence

More than 20 U.S. senators have introduced a priority resolution calling for a Congressional briefing regarding escalating violence in the West Bank involving Israeli soldiers and settlers. Led by Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Van Hollen, Tim Kaine, and Bernie Sanders, the resolution requests that the U.S. Department of State provide updates on violence against Palestinians.

The resolution would require the State Department to share information gathered from investigations into the deaths of U.S. citizens by settlers or Israeli soldiers. It also seeks an assessment of human rights conditions, specifically regarding the detention of Palestinian children. Senator Jeanne Shaheen stated that violence by extremist settlers ‘undermines the rule of law and endangers the two-state solution.’

Reports indicate a rise in settler attacks since 2023. According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, 628 attacks were recorded in August alone, concentrated in areas such as Ramallah, Nablus, and Hebron. These incidents have resulted in numerous casualties, including Palestinian fatalities and injuries to women and children.
