US Senators Pass Bipartisan Resolution Condemning China's New Ethnic Unity Law

Senators Jacky Rosen (D‑NV), John Curtis (R‑UT), Jeff Merkley (D‑OR) and Jim Banks (R‑IN) introduced a bipartisan resolution denouncing a Chinese Communist Party law slated to take effect on 1 July. The legislation, described as an “Ethnic Unity and Progress Law,” would restrict the language and cultural practices of ethnic minorities—including Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongolians and Christians—within China and permit the government to target individuals and groups abroad deemed hostile to Chinese “ethnic unity.”

The senators warned the law threatens human‑rights and could be used for trans‑national repression, urging the United States to defend religious and cultural freedom worldwide and to counter any attempts to export Chinese repression beyond its borders.
