U.S. Senators Push Pentagon to Release Findings on Iran School Strike

Democratic senators, led by Kirsten Gillibrand and including more than two dozen members such as Senate Armed Services Committee ranking member Jack Reed, have written to the Trump administration demanding that the Pentagon disclose the unclassified results of its investigation into the Feb. 28 strike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran. The senators ask that the findings be provided within a week, brief Congress, and include a plan to prevent similar incidents.

The strike killed more than 175 children and teachers, according to Iranian officials, and is being described as the U.S. military’s largest civilian‑casualty incident since the 1991 bombing of an Iraqi shelter. Reuters reported that an internal U.S. investigation suggests U.S. forces were likely responsible and that outdated intelligence may have been used in creating the targeting package. The school was located next to a compound operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, testified that the investigation is complex. President Donald Trump has expressed doubt about U.S. responsibility. Iranian officials have called the strike a war crime. The senators also request Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to submit an unclassified version of the findings and a remediation plan.
