US Soccer files FIFA complaint against Argentine football officials

US Soccer has filed a formal complaint with the FIFA Ethics Committee against Argentine officials Claudio Tapia, Pablo Toviggino, and businessman Guillermo Tofoni. The complaint alleges improper pressure, interference, and maneuvers contrary to institutional fair play regarding the organization of Copa América 2024 and other international business dealings.

The filing includes emails, internal communications, and testimonies intended to demonstrate misconduct in negotiations involving commercial rights, friendly matches, and exploitation agreements. US Soccer is seeking a formal investigation into potential violations of integrity, conflict of interest, and abuse of position.

In separate football news, Vélez Sarsfield has filed a formal claim with the AFA to impugn a Copa Argentina match against Boca Juniors. The club alleges an improper lineup, claiming Boca included six foreign players in a match where regulations permit only five. Vélez coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto expressed frustration with the media focus on this controversy following his team's victory over Estudiantes.
