US Social Security 2027 COLA projected at 3.8% pending October CPI data

The Senior Citizens League estimates a 3.8% cost‑of‑living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security benefits in 2027, which would raise the average monthly payment from about $2,084 to roughly $2,164, adding around $80 per retiree. The final increase will be set after the Social Security Administration receives three key inflation reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics covering July, August and September, released on August 12, September 11 and October 14, 2026. The October 14 CPI‑W release will determine the adjustment for roughly 75 million Social Security and SSI recipients, as well as affect federal civil‑service retirees and upcoming IRS contribution limits. Medicare Part B premiums, currently $202.90 per month, could offset part of the increase for some beneficiaries. Until the October report is published, the 3.8% figure remains an estimate, not a guaranteed raise.
