Italian AI Industry Generates €4.1 billion, Piemonte Leads Revenue
A study by La Tech Made in Italy and Altermind estimates that Italy's artificial‑intelligence sector reached €4.1 billion in revenue in 2026, supported by a specialised workforce of 22,740 employees. The average turnover per AI solution is €69.1 million, with revenue per employee of about €179,000.
Regionally, Piemonte accounts for €2.29 billion (55.7% of total) despite hosting only three listed solutions. Lombardia ranks second with €1.02 billion (24.9%) and hosts the most solutions (29), followed by Tuscany with €705 million. Other regions contribute smaller shares, with Emilia‑Romagna, Campania, Veneto and Lazio supplying the bulk of the remaining solutions.
The report notes that AI adoption remains uneven among small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises and that the transition from research excellence to scalable platforms is still selective. It calls for focus on industrial AI for manufacturing productivity, sovereign AI infrastructure, and accelerated talent development to maintain Italy’s international competitiveness.
