U.S. Military Strike Kills Three in Eastern Pacific

On June 18, 2026, the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) under the direction of Gen. Francis L. Donovan carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a fast‑moving vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The attack killed three men; the military provided no evidence that the boat was transporting illicit drugs.

The strike is part of the Trump administration’s campaign, launched in September 2025, that labels such targets as “narcoterrorists.” Including this incident, at least 211 people have been killed in similar U.S. boat attacks in the Pacific and Caribbean since the campaign began. A video released by the command shows the vessel being hit and engulfed in flames.

Human‑rights groups such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have condemned the attacks as extrajudicial killings and questioned their legality. U.S. senators have demanded that the Pentagon release unedited footage, and the Pentagon’s inspector general is reviewing whether targeting procedures were properly followed, though it is not assessing the legality of the strikes.
